Problems caused by Bed Bugs

What are Bed Bugs?

Bed bugs are small, oval, brownish insects that live on the blood of humans and animals. They can be a very major nuisance to you because bed bugs are very small, unnoticeable, and can hide easily in any available crevices or dark places like on and around your mattress, and suck your blood when you fall asleep.

How to control them?

If you suspect an infestation, you should first of all look at any dark places around your room, such as your mattress, any cracked plaster, your closet, and even electrical outlets. Having done that, if you found any issuesin bed bug control, you should collect a sample of them to show to an expert to identify them as bed bugs. Once they have been identified, you should also notify your landlord, as they may have a responsibility to participate in treatment. Successful treatment of bed bug control can take up to weeks or months, therefore all the residents will need to be patient and cooperative. Clutter should also be avoided as much as possible since it provides hiding places for the bugs. You must also inspect all areas that may have infestations, and their surroundings to make sure you know the extent of the infestation.

When fighting an infestation, you must be very careful and organized. You should make records of all dates and places where you found bed bugs to help you track your progress and to help you know where to look. You should also keep checking these spaces for up to a year after you have cleaned them to ensure you have exterminated the bugs.

There are two kinds of methods you can use to eliminate bed bugs, chemical and non-chemical. The non-chemical methods consist of either heat or cold treatment.

  • Heat bed bug controltreatment

You can put items in the dryer at high heat to eliminate the bugs but this might not work on items you can’t put in the dryer. It is best to reach out to professionals who have access to equipment that can heat entire sections of the house at a time. You can also place items in sealed black plastic bags and put them in the sun, but this depends on your local climate.

You can also place items in a freezer that is set to at least -18 degrees Celsius. The items should be in a sealed plastic bag.

  • Steambed bug control treatment

Steam can also be used to get rid of bed bugs because of its temperature. Steam cleaners can be used because steam can get into cracks and crevices to treat carpets, baseboards, and other furniture. Their airflow should not be forceful, however, because it might scatter the bed bugs.

Chemical treatments consist of different types of pesticides. Desiccants may also be used, since they dry the bugs out, to which they can’t develop resistance. If needed, you could also contact a pest control in toronto. After the completion of treatment, you should keep checking for the presence of bugs or eggs every few days. If there are any found, it means the treatment was not successful, which mean retreatment may be needed.

It is best to hire a professional to exterminate bed bugs as he will have the expertise needed to handle the infestation.
